Will my child be supervised at all times ?
Yes, Students are always under adult supervision. While in the cabins the ratio is one Cabin Leader to eleven students. A paid Cabin Leader sleeps in the cabin with the students to assure safety.
Are the boys and girls in separate cabins ?
Absolutely. Cabins are separated from each other .
What if my child becomes ill or injured ?
We have a registered nurse on site. There is an infirmary stocked with all necessary first aid items. All of the staff is trained in CPR/First Aid. In addition paramedics are fifteen minutes to our site, while drive time to Big Bear or Loma Linda hospitals is twenty-five to thirty minutes depending on traffic. In extreme instances students can be air lifed from site.
What if my child is homesick ?
This sometimes happens in the first twenty four hours, but usually it fades quickly. We will allow your child to telephone you if homesickness continues. Also the nurse is very practiced in treating homesickness.
Will my child have privacy for shower and the restrooms ?
Definitely. The shower stalls are individual, separate and private. The cabin leader monitors student behavior to be certain that your child experiences the utmost privacy.
What if I need to contact my child ?
Phones will be in place to call in cases of emergency. You may also send letters. Please send letters one week before your child leaves for science camp.
May my child take a cell phone to camp ?
We feel that to enjoy the full experience of the program that students have an electronic free week. Due to privacy matters any phones brought on site will be collected by the teacherand returned to the student at their home school. You may always contact your child through our office.
How will my child take pictures?
Your child may bring an inexpensive disposable camera. We cannot be responsible for lost or broken cameras.
What if there is rain or snow?
Please have your child bring raingear. If the storm is too heavy we have many places for indoor activities. If you do not have appropriate raingear, we have extras on site.
May I send food ?
No food is allowed in the cabin. Cabins need to be food free so as not to attract wildlife. Students who are diabetic or have special food needs may bring food which will be distributed by the nurse.
How will my child receive their medications?
The registered nurse will dispense all medications at appropriate times.
